Some might wonder what summer slippers mean – especially when they are made of wool. You might have the thought that woollen slippers are more of a winter garment, but allow us to explain. These slippers are made with glerups finest blend of wool, made from wool from Danish Gotland sheep and wool from New Zealand. And this wool blend is as close to magic as it gets. Not only does it keep your feet warm, when it’s cold – it also has the ability to keep your feet cool on warm days. And the level of comfort you get when wearing these slippers, is out of the ordinary as this wool blend is packed with natural properties. For instance you can easily wear the slippers on bare feet, as the molecular structure of the fibres is in close resemblance to that of human skin, making them comfortable and less likely to irritate your skin, which would be the case with footwear made from other materials when worn over longer periods of time.
The fibres of the wool are able to absorb any excess heat and moisture, making the wearer of the slippers feel their best whenever they are worn. And you don’t have to worry about bad odour from the feet when wearing glerups slippers – the fibres also absorb that. Heat, moisture and odour is released again when the slippers are given a rest, preferably somewhere with fresh air.
That leads us to another benefit of these slippers – they are extremely easy to maintain. Just follow the simple instructions in our careguide found here and learn how to take care of your glerups footwear, so you can enjoy them for a long time.
Our slippers come with two different types of soles. There is the natural leather sole, which is suited for indoor activity or leisure, if you are the type who enjoys the sun while reading a good book on the porch or relaxing by the pool while your kids are playing. Then there is the natural rubber sole, which is perfect for the outdoorsy type, who enjoys hanging out in the garden, having a walk in the woods or by the sea. Some pack them along with other necessities when going hiking or camping, so that the feet can have a break when the camp is set up and it is time to unwind by the fire with family or good friends. Both types can be used all year round and are sure to elevate your downtime.
When the first pair of glerups slippers were made, it wasn’t to be shipped around the world or start a new footwear trend. It happened in the Northern part of the small European country Denmark, where Nanny Glerup made a pair of boot slippers for her husband Ove. She had taken a class in making footwear out of felted wool and thought that her husband deserved a present. He was so excited about the boot slippers and how comfy they were that he wore them everywhere, leading to Nanny getting her first “orders” from friends and family. The word spread and soon Ove and Nanny had to expand. Through years of dedication and hard work, they slowly turned glerups into a brand that sends footwear all over the world today.
Being a part of Danish design tradition means adhering to the philosophy of Danish designers. Your design must be simple, functional and elegant. And we feel that glerups is the perfect example for this. Our footwear has a simple design, no pattern or adhesives to spice up their looks – just slippers with the utmost of comfort. They are functional in the many occasions in which they can be worn and with a longevity longer than other types of slippers available in the market. You can wear your glerups at home, at work, in school or just for a quick trip downtown. Their elegance is found both in the simplistic, yet classy design and also in the colours they come in. At glerups we get inspired by Nordic nature and this shows in our designs. The colour palette is subtle, which makes it easy to find a pair in the colour that suits your style the best.
If you don’t see yourself as the type to wear slippers, but you are still interested in trying the comfort of wearing glerups footwear, we got something special for you. Introducing the Langdal, our new member of the glerups family. It is a lace shoe and our first sneaker, made with all the passion and quality that signifies footwear from glerups. To make the Langdal, we at glerups have teamed up with project zero waste – an organisation that helps prevent products from going to waste by connecting people in productivity who can benefit from each other's products. In this case, we have received coconut fibres from the food industry, which would normally be classified as a waste product, but it turns out it is perfect for making shoes. These fibres are used for making the insole and midsole of the Langdal. This shoe is made for cool comfort, while hanging out with friends, working, going to school or whatever your daily life contains. It comes in grey, cream, rosa, black, brown and light green, so it is easy to find the right match for your personal style.
