Apple slices just taste better when they’re homemade. In the 18th century, apple slices were a thin slice of apple, dipped in batter and fried in butter on the pan - today, it's rare to find actual apple in these treats. Try Nanny’s recipe for apple slices for an authentic experience!
IngredientsServes 61/2 vanilla pod320 g all-purpose flour2 tsp sugar1 1/2 tsp ground cardamom1/2 tsp baking powder1/2 tsp saltZest of 1 organic lemon, grated3 eggs4 1/2 dl milk30 g melted butter2 tbsp butterPowdered sugar
Instructions
Mix the flour, lemon zest, sugar, cardamom, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
Separate the eggs and beat the egg whites until stiff in another bowl.
Stir the melted butter into the batter. Finally, gently fold in the beaten egg whites and pour the batter into a pitcher.
Heat the pan well and add a generous amount of butter to each hole.
Pour the batter from a pitcher, filling each hole in the pan halfway.
Once the apple slices are baked on one side, you can traditionally add a spoonful of apple compote or a small apple piece on top. However, we prefer to serve the fruit on the side, as it helps the apple slices rise better.
Serve as warm as possible and sprinkle with powdered sugar or regular sugar.
Enjoy!

In 1993 Nanny from Denmark felted a pair of boots for the first time, and the wool came from her own Gotland sheep. The felted boots were well received among friends and family, so well, that Nanny started a small hobby production. This paved the way for the company glerups
“glerups have been a fan favorite for house slippers because the uppers are made entirely of felted wool which is breathable, moisture-wicking and odor-resistant. But the iconic slipper also comes in a model with a more durable rubber sole suited for outdoor use...”
"Another perennial Strat favorite are these wool slippers by the northern Denmark–based company glerups.Former Strategist writer Lauren Levy calls out the extra plushness and seamless design, while former Strategist senior writer Karen Iorio Adelson says the wool feels “warm, soft, and not at all itchy.”
”For what it’s worth, these glerups may be the coolest-looking slippers on this list. They have an upper made of 100% pure natural wool, which helps temperature regulation and moisture wicking. They're warm and cozy without causing feet to sweat.”
